One evening as I was driving by Walden Ponds, east of Boulder, Colorado where I live, I was compelled by the overcast lighting to stop and take a walk. I stood for a long time watching a goose on the pond, and was taken by the subtle colors of the moment and the flatiron mountains that could be seen in the distance. I put black salt in the wet paint to create the rocks along the shoreline, which I used to pull the viewer into the picture.
Anne Gifford is an award winning artist and the eight time poster artist for Colorado's Bolder Boulder 10K Memorial Day Race, one of the largest road races in the United States. She began her career as a silkscreen artist. After 25 years of printmaking, Anne now works with watercolor, building successive layers of color to create her vibrant, rich, and detailed paintings. She has lived in Colorado since 1976 and finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Her paintings, like a pictorial journal, have chronicled her journey thus far.
